  1. 1. Identify the current X.org Xserver version installed on the system using: `Xorg -version` or `xdpyinfo | grep "X.Org"`
  2. 2. If the installed version is 1.4 or earlier, upgrade to Xserver version 1.4.1 or later
  3. 3. For systems using package managers: on Debian/Ubuntu run `apt-get update && apt-get upgrade xserver-xorg-core`, on Red Hat/CentOS run `yum update xorg-x11-server-Xorg`, on Gentoo run `emerge --sync && emerge -av x11-base/xorg-server`
  4. 4. After upgrading, restart the X server (log out and log back in, or reboot the system)
  5. 5. Verify the new version is installed: `Xorg -version`
