Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.

dbcve analysis
How this class of weakness works · CWE-94

The application evaluates attacker-influenced input as code, handing them a way to run logic inside the process. Depending on the runtime this can escalate directly to remote code execution. Remediation means removing dynamic evaluation of untrusted input and replacing it with safe, data-driven alternatives.

Remediation Closing itWhat it takes to close this. Where a vendor fix exists we point at it; where none exists we say so plainly, and can build one. Effort estimates are scoped from the advisory, not from your codebase.

Recommended fix Moderate confidence
  1. Remove the vulnerable plus.php script if it is no longer needed, to eliminate the attack surface.
  2. If the script must remain, rename or delete the plus.php file, or block external access using .htaccess or web server access controls.
  3. Disable remote file inclusion in PHP by setting `allow_url_include = Off` in php.ini (or .user.ini).
  4. Hardcode the `_pages_dir` parameter in plus.php to a static, trusted directory path, removing any user‑controlled input.
  5. Add an .htaccess rule (or equivalent) to deny direct execution of PHP files in the script's directory, e.g., `deny from all` for plus.php.
  6. Review the server's open_basedir and disable_functions settings to limit the impact of any code injection.
Caveat Removing the script will break any existing short URL functionality; consider migrating to a maintained URL shortening solution.
