Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.

NVD · unedited
A vulnerability in the Local Packet Transport Services (LPTS) ingress frame-processing functionality of Cisco IOS XR Software could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause one of the LPTS processes on an affected system to restart unexpectedly, resulting in a brief denial of service (DoS) condition. The vulnerability is due to incomplete LPTS frame validation by the affected software. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending crafted XML requests to the management interface of an affected system. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to cause one of the LPTS processes on the affected system to restart unexpectedly, which would impact LPTS traffic and cause a brief DoS condition while the process restarts. Cisco Bug IDs: CSCvf76332.

Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.

dbcve analysis · high confidence

A vulnerability in Cisco IOS XR Software's Local Packet Transport Services (LPTS) allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to cause an LPTS process to restart by sending crafted XML requests to the management interface. The root cause is incomplete LPTS frame validation in the ingress frame-processing functionality.

MitigationApply the Cisco patch for CSCvf76332 when available. Until then, restrict access to the management interface using ACLs or network segmentation to limit exposure to untrusted networks.

Verify against the referenced sources before acting — the references below are authoritative for this CVE, this summary is not.

Am I affected? How to checkSteps we derive from the advisory and the affected-version data, so you can decide whether this CVE reaches your setup. They are a guide, not a scan — your own configuration is the authority.

dbcve checks

Work through these to decide whether this CVE applies to you.

  1. Identify the Cisco IOS XR version
Run 'show version' or 'show install active' to display the installed IOS XR version
Affected if The version displayed is exactly 6.4.1_base - this is the only affected version listed for this CVE
  2. Confirm the product is Cisco IOS XR
Check the system prompt or run 'show version' to identify the software platform - this vulnerability affects only Cisco IOS XR, not other Cisco IOS variants
Affected if The device is not running Cisco IOS XR software, this CVE does not apply
  3. Verify management interface configuration
Check if the management interface (typically MgmtEth0/RP0/CPU0/0) is configured and enabled using 'show ip interface brief' or 'show interface management'
Affected if The management interface is active and reachable from untrusted networks - this is the attack vector for the crafted XML requests
  4. Confirm LPTS process is running
Use 'show process lpts' or 'show processes lpts location all' to verify the Local Packet Transport Services process is active
Affected if LPTS process is running and the device meets the version criteria - the device is vulnerable to the restart condition described in the CVE

The environment is affected only if the device runs exactly Cisco IOS XR version 6.4.1_base and has an accessible management interface that can receive the crafted XML requests.
