Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.

NVD · unedited
Firefox could be made to load attacker-supplied DLL files from the installation directory. This required an attacker that is already capable of placing files in the installation directory. *Note: This issue only affected Windows operating systems. Other operating systems are unaffected.*. This vulnerability affects Firefox ESR < 78.1, Firefox < 79, and Thunderbird < 78.1.

Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.

dbcve analysis · high confidence

A DLL hijacking vulnerability in Firefox and Thunderbird on Windows allowed an attacker with file system access to the installation directory to place a malicious DLL that would be loaded by the browser, achieving arbitrary code execution. The attacker needed pre-existing write access to the Firefox installation folder.

MitigationUpdate Firefox ESR to 78.1 or later, Firefox to 79 or later, and Thunderbird to 78.1 or later to remediate this vulnerability.

Verify against the referenced sources before acting — the references below are authoritative for this CVE, this summary is not.
