CVE-2020-27539
Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.
NVD · uneditedHeap overflow with full parsing of HTTP respose in Rostelecom CS-C2SHW 5.0.082.1. AgentUpdater service has a self-written HTTP parser and builder. HTTP parser has a heap buffer overflow (OOB write). In default configuration camera parses responses only from HTTPS URLs from config file, so vulnerable code is unreachable and one more bug required to reach it.
Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.
dbcve analysisThe program writes past the bounds of a buffer, overwriting adjacent memory an attacker can turn to their advantage. Crafted input can overwrite control data and redirect execution. Remediation is validating every index and length before a write, plus modern memory-safety mitigations.

Affected products & versions What the vendor confirmedThe version ranges the vendor confirmed as vulnerable. If your version sits inside a range here, treat yourself as exposed until you have upgraded.

Remediation Closing itWhat it takes to close this. Where a vendor fix exists we point at it; where none exists we say so plainly, and can build one. Effort estimates are scoped from the advisory, not from your codebase.
dbcve · scoped- No fix or patch information is available in the referenced materials for CVE-2020-27539.
- The official description indicates that in the default configuration, the camera only parses responses from HTTPS URLs, making the vulnerable HTTP parser code unreachable.
- Exploitation would require chaining this vulnerability with another bug to reach the vulnerable code path.
- Monitor the vendor (Rostelecom) for any firmware updates or security advisories related to this CVE.
- Consider network segmentation as a defense-in-depth measure to limit exposure to devices running this firmware version.

There is no version to upgrade to and no patch to apply. Every affected install stays exposed until the vendor ships a fix — or somebody else builds one.

The advisory tells you what broke. It rarely tells you what actually worked. If you’ve dealt with this one, that detail is what the next engineer is searching for.
- The version that genuinely resolved it — not the one the vendor claimed
- A config change or rule that shut the vector down
- A gotcha in the upgrade path that cost you an afternoon
