Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.

NVD · unedited
jsoup is a Java library for working with HTML. Those using jsoup versions prior to 1.14.2 to parse untrusted HTML or XML may be vulnerable to DOS attacks. If the parser is run on user supplied input, an attacker may supply content that causes the parser to get stuck (loop indefinitely until cancelled), to complete more slowly than usual, or to throw an unexpected exception. This effect may support a denial of service attack. The issue is patched in version 1.14.2. There are a few available workarounds. Users may rate limit input parsing, limit the size of inputs based on system resources, and/or implement thread watchdogs to cap and timeout parse runtimes.

Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.

jsoup 1.14.2

  1. Identify all project dependencies that include jsoup (e.g., via 'mvn dependency:tree' for Maven or 'gradle dependencies' for Gradle)
  2. For Maven projects: Update the jsoup version in pom.xml to 1.14.2 or later: <dependency><groupId>org.jsoup</groupId><artifactId>jsoup</artifactId><version>1.14.2</version></dependency>
  3. For Gradle projects: Update build.gradle to implementation 'org.jsoup:jsoup:1.14.2'
  4. Run 'mvn clean install' or 'gradle build' to rebuild with the updated dependency
  5. Deploy the rebuilt application to all environments
  6. For Oracle product deployments (Banking Trade Finance 14.5, Treasury Management 14.5, BPM Suite 12.2.1.3.0/12.2.1.4.0, Flexcube Universal Banking 14.0.0-14.5, Hospitality Token Proxy Service 19.2, PeopleSoft 8.58/8.59): Apply the relevant patches from Oracle CPU April 2022 (https://www.oracle.com/security-alerts/cpuapr2022.html)
Caveat Minor: Review jsoup 1.14.2 release notes for any API changes; some edge-case parsing behaviors may differ
