Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.

NVD · unedited
An out-of-bounds write vulnerability exists in the U3D file reading procedure in Open Design Alliance PRC SDK before 2022.10. Crafted data in a U3D file can trigger a write past the end of an allocated buffer. An attacker can leverage this in conjunction with other vulnerabilities to execute arbitrary code in the context of the current process.

Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.

dbcve analysis · high confidence

An out-of-bounds write vulnerability exists in the U3D file reading procedure of the Open Design Alliance PRC SDK versions prior to 2022.10. When parsing specially crafted U3D files, the SDK writes data past the end of an allocated buffer, leading to memory corruption that can be chained with other vulnerabilities for arbitrary code execution.

MitigationUpdate to PRC SDK version 2022.10 or later to obtain the vendor patch. Alternatively, implement strict input validation on U3D files before processing and consider sandboxing or restricting file processing privileges to limit impact.

Verify against the referenced sources before acting — the references below are authoritative for this CVE, this summary is not.

Am I affected? How to checkSteps we derive from the advisory and the affected-version data, so you can decide whether this CVE reaches your setup. They are a guide, not a scan — your own configuration is the authority.

dbcve checks

Work through these to decide whether this CVE applies to you.

  1. Identify ODA PRC SDK installation
Search for ODA PRC SDK libraries or components in your environment. Look for binaries, libraries, or SDK packages with 'PRC' or 'ODA' in the name, or check application dependencies for references to the Open Design Alliance PRC SDK.
Affected if The ODA PRC SDK is present in the environment
  2. Determine PRC SDK version
Examine the version information of the installed PRC SDK by checking SDK DLLs, headers, version metadata, or library properties. Compare the installed version against the 2022.10 release from Open Design Alliance.
Affected if The installed version is prior to 2022.10
  3. Verify U3D file parsing is in use
Inspect application configuration, code, or modules that handle U3D file format processing. Look for U3D-specific parsers, import routines, or conversion features that enable reading U3D files.
Affected if U3D file parsing functionality is enabled or accessible in the application
  4. Check if U3D files are processed
Review file processing workflows, upload mechanisms, or conversion pipelines to determine whether U3D files are accepted or processed by any system using the PRC SDK.
Affected if The system processes or can process U3D files from any source

The environment is vulnerable if the ODA PRC SDK is installed with a version lower than 2022.10 and the system has U3D file parsing capability enabled or accessible.

Upgrade available Upgrade to 2022.10 or later
Fixed in 2022.10
Interim mitigation

Update to PRC SDK version 2022.10 or later to obtain the vendor patch. Alternatively, implement strict input validation on U3D files before processing and consider sandboxing or restricting file processing privileges to limit impact.

Recommended fix High confidence

2022.10

  1. 1. Identify the current version of ODA PRC SDK being used in your application or system
  2. 2. Download the ODA PRC SDK version 2022.10 or later from the official Open Design Alliance website (www.opendesign.com)
  3. 3. Replace the existing PRC SDK libraries with the updated version 2022.10
  4. 4. Rebuild and recompile any applications that link against the PRC SDK
  5. 5. Test the application functionality to ensure the upgrade does not break existing features
