Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.

NVD · unedited
NVIDIA GPU Display Driver for Windows contains a vulnerability in the kernel mode layer (nvlddmkm.sys) handler for DxgkDdiEscape, where a local user with basic capabilities can cause an out-of-bounds read, which may lead to denial of service, or information disclosure.

Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.

How this class of weakness works · CWE-20

The application accepts input without confirming it is well-formed or within expected bounds, so malformed data can push the program into states its author never anticipated. Attackers probe these gaps to trigger crashes, bypass logic, or feed tainted values into more dangerous operations downstream. Remediating it well means validating and normalising every input at the boundary against a strict allow-list — not merely filtering known-bad values.

General guidance for the improper input validation class — the official description and references above are authoritative for this specific CVE. Want a bespoke review and a reviewed fix? Ask our team →

Gpu Display Driver: 473.81, 453.64, 513.46, or 516.94 (depending on current version branch); Virtual GPU: 11.8, 13.3, or 14.1; Cloud Gaming Guest: 516.94

  1. Identify the installed NVIDIA GPU driver version by opening NVIDIA Control Panel or running 'nvidia-smi' in command prompt
  2. Download the appropriate driver version from NVIDIA's official drivers page or use NVIDIA GeForce Experience to automatically detect and install updates
  3. For Gpu Display Driver: Upgrade to version 473.81 or later if currently 471.11-473.80; upgrade to 516.94 or later if currently 511.09-513.45; upgrade to 516.94 or later if currently 516.25-516.93; upgrade to 453.64 or later if currently 451.48-453.63
  4. For Virtual GPU: Upgrade to version 11.8 or later if currently 11.0-11.7; upgrade to 13.3 or later if currently 13.0-13.2; upgrade to 14.1 or later if currently 14.0
  5. For Cloud Gaming Guest: Upgrade to version 516.94 or later if currently below 516.94
  6. Restart the system after driver installation to ensure the new driver loads properly
Caveat None documented - this is a security update with same driver branch compatibility; ensure GPU hardware supports the target driver version
