Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.

NVD · unedited
Adobe Substance 3D Painter versions 8.3.0 (and earlier) is affected by an out-of-bounds read vulnerability when parsing a crafted file, which could result in a read past the end of an allocated memory structure. An attacker could leverage this vulnerability to execute code in the context of the current user. Exploitation of this issue requires user interaction in that a victim must open a malicious file.

Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.

dbcve analysis · high confidence

Adobe Substance 3D Painter versions 8.3.0 and earlier contain an out-of-bounds read vulnerability during file parsing. When the application parses a specially crafted malicious file, it reads beyond the bounds of allocated memory structures, potentially allowing an attacker to leak sensitive memory contents and ultimately achieve code execution in the context of the current user.

MitigationUsers should update Adobe Substance 3D Painter to version 8.3.1 or later. Until patched, users must avoid opening files from untrusted sources, as exploitation requires user interaction (opening a malicious file).

Verify against the referenced sources before acting — the references below are authoritative for this CVE, this summary is not.

Am I affected? How to checkSteps we derive from the advisory and the affected-version data, so you can decide whether this CVE reaches your setup. They are a guide, not a scan — your own configuration is the authority.

dbcve checks

Work through these to decide whether this CVE applies to you.

  1. Check installed Adobe Substance 3D Painter version
Open the application, then go to Help > About Adobe Substance 3D Painter, or check the version listed in the application installer or installed programs list in Control Panel/System Settings
Affected if If the version displayed is 8.3.0 or earlier (any version <= 8.3.0)
  2. Confirm the application is vulnerable to file parsing attacks
This vulnerability is triggered when the application parses specially crafted .sbsar, .sbs, or other supported file formats
Affected if If the installed version is 8.3.0 or earlier, the application is vulnerable when parsing malicious files
  3. Identify exposure to untrusted file sources
Review whether the user or other users on the system open 3D asset files from untrusted or unknown sources, download files from the internet, or receive files via email or messaging
Affected if If untrusted files are opened with Adobe Substance 3D Painter, exploitation becomes possible

The environment is affected if Adobe Substance 3D Painter version 8.3.0 or earlier is installed and the application is used to open files from untrusted sources.

Interim mitigation

Users should update Adobe Substance 3D Painter to version 8.3.1 or later. Until patched, users must avoid opening files from untrusted sources, as exploitation requires user interaction (opening a malicious file).

Recommended fix Moderate confidence

Latest version of Substance 3D Painter (version > 8.3.0, check Adobe for 8.3.1 or subsequent release)

  1. 1. Close Adobe Substance 3D Painter if it is currently running
  2. 2. Back up any custom assets, presets, or projects in the application data folder before upgrading
  3. 3. Download the latest version of Adobe Substance 3D Painter from the official Adobe website (substance3d.adobe.com) or through the Creative Cloud desktop application
  4. 4. Run the installer and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation
  5. 5. After installation, verify the installed version by opening Substance 3D Painter and navigating to Help > About to confirm the version is newer than 8.3.0
