Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.

NVD · unedited
The Export and Import Users and Customers plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to unauthorized modification of data due to a missing capability check on the 'hf_update_customer' function called via an AJAX action in versions up to, and including, 2.4.1. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with shop manager-level permissions to change user passwords and potentially take over administrator accounts.

Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.

dbcve analysis
How this class of weakness works · CWE-863

An authorization check exists but is flawed, so it passes when it should fail. Attackers probe roles and object references to find the gap. Remediation means centralising and correctly implementing the access-control logic, then testing it against every role.

Affected products & versions What the vendor confirmedThe version ranges the vendor confirmed as vulnerable. If your version sits inside a range here, treat yourself as exposed until you have upgraded.

Recommended fix Moderate confidence

Latest version available in WordPress plugin repository (version > 2.4.1)

  1. Upgrade the 'Export and Import Users and Customers for WooCommerce' plugin to the latest available version from the WordPress plugin repository
  2. After upgrading, verify that the 'hf_update_customer' function now includes proper capability checks (such as 'manage_options' or similar authorization validation)
  3. Ensure that users with shop manager role no longer have unauthorized access to user modification functions
  4. Test the import functionality to confirm it still works correctly after the upgrade
  5. Review user accounts to ensure no unauthorized password changes occurred prior to the patch
