Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.

NVD · unedited
In multiple methods of UserManagerService.java, there is a possible failure to persist or enforce user restrictions due to improper input validation. This could lead to local escalation of privilege with no additional execution privileges needed. User interaction is needed for exploitation.

Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.

dbcve analysis
How this class of weakness works · CWE-269

Privileges are granted, or fail to be dropped, incorrectly, so an action runs with more power than it should. An attacker who reaches that path inherits the excess privilege. The fix is least-privilege throughout, with explicit, checked transitions whenever privilege changes.

Android 15 or later, or the latest available Android Security Patch Level from your device manufacturer containing the February 2024 Android Security Bulletin fixes

  1. Apply the latest Android Security Patch Level (SPL) for your Android version. On most devices, this is done through Settings > System > Security update > Security patch level.
  2. If your device manufacturer has released an update containing the fix for CVE-2024-0024 (commit 6a9250ec7fc9801a883cedd7860076f42fb518ac), install that update.
  3. Alternatively, upgrade to Android 15 or later if your device is supported, as it contains the security fix for this vulnerability in UserManagerService.
  4. After updating, verify the Security Patch Level is dated after the fix was merged (the fix was merged in early 2024, so any patch dated February 2024 or later should include it).
Caveat Upgrading Android versions may remove support for older apps or change device settings; monthly security patches typically have minimal impact
