Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.

NVD · unedited
Animate versions 23.0.4, 24.0.1 and earlier are affected by an out-of-bounds read vulnerability when parsing a crafted file, which could result in a read past the end of an allocated memory structure. An attacker could leverage this vulnerability to execute code in the context of the current user. Exploitation of this issue requires user interaction in that a victim must open a malicious file.

Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.

dbcve analysis · high confidence

Adobe Animate contains an out-of-bounds read vulnerability when parsing crafted files, allowing an attacker to read past the end of allocated memory structures. This could be leveraged to achieve code execution in the context of the current user. Exploitation requires victim interaction (opening a malicious .anme or animation file).

MitigationUpdate Adobe Animate to the patched version released by Adobe. Avoid opening untrusted or unexpected animation files from unknown sources.

Verify against the referenced sources before acting — the references below are authoritative for this CVE, this summary is not.

Am I affected? How to checkSteps we derive from the advisory and the affected-version data, so you can decide whether this CVE reaches your setup. They are a guide, not a scan — your own configuration is the authority.

dbcve checks

Work through these to decide whether this CVE applies to you.

  1. Identify Adobe Animate installation
Open Adobe Animate and navigate to Help > About Adobe Animate, or check the application properties in Windows Explorer / Finder on Mac. The version number is displayed in the format XX.X.X
Affected if Version displays as a number less than 23.0.5, or 24.0.0 or 24.0.1
  2. Confirm version against affected ranges
Compare your installed version number to the affected ranges: versions below 23.0.5, or versions 24.0.0 through 24.0.1 are vulnerable. Versions 23.0.5 and above, or 24.0.2 and above are not affected
    Affected if Installed version falls within < 23.0.5 OR >= 24.0.0 and < 24.0.2
  3. Verify .anme file handling capability
Check if Adobe Animate is configured to open or has recently opened .anme files. This file extension is used by Adobe Animate for animation project files. Look for file associations in Adobe Animate preferences or system file type associations
Affected if Animate can open .anme files and the parsing of such files would trigger the vulnerable code path
  4. Inspect for suspicious .anme files
Search for unexpected or untrusted .anme files in download folders, email attachments, or recent documents. These files are required for exploitation - the vulnerability is triggered during file parsing
Affected if Unknown or untrusted .anme files from external sources have been opened with Adobe Animate

You are affected if Adobe Animate version is less than 23.0.5 or between 24.0.0 and 24.0.1 inclusive, AND you open or have opened malicious .anme files from untrusted sources

Update Adobe Animate to the patched version released by Adobe. Avoid opening untrusted or unexpected animation files from unknown sources.

Recommended fix High confidence

Adobe Animate 23.0.5 (for v23.x) or 24.0.2 (for v24.x)

  1. 1. Close Adobe Animate if it is currently running
  2. 2. Back up any important Animate project files (.fla, .xfl) as a precaution
  3. 3. Open Adobe Creative Cloud desktop application
  4. 4. Navigate to the Apps or Updates section
  5. 5. Locate Adobe Animate in the available updates
  6. 6. Click Update or Install to install the latest version
  7. 7. For version 23.x users: Ensure update to version 23.0.5 or later
  8. 8. For version 24.x users: Ensure update to version 24.0.2 or later
Caveat Standard Adobe update; minor interface or feature changes possible between major versions but no known breaking changes for this security update
