Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.

NVD · unedited
A vulnerability has been identified in Simcenter Femap (All versions < V2406). The affected applications contain an out of bounds read past the end of an allocated structure while parsing specially crafted IGS files. This could allow an attacker to execute code in the context of the current process. (ZDI-CAN-21578)

Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.

dbcve analysis · high confidence

Simcenter Femap contains an out-of-bounds read vulnerability when parsing IGS (IGES) files. The parser reads past the end of an allocated memory structure, which can corrupt memory and potentially allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code in the context of the current process by tricking a user into opening a specially crafted malicious IGS file.

MitigationUpgrade Simcenter Femap to version V2406 or later to patch the vulnerability. Until upgraded, avoid opening untrusted or unknown IGS files from unverified sources.

Verify against the referenced sources before acting — the references below are authoritative for this CVE, this summary is not.

Am I affected? How to checkSteps we derive from the advisory and the affected-version data, so you can decide whether this CVE reaches your setup. They are a guide, not a scan — your own configuration is the authority.

dbcve checks

Work through these to decide whether this CVE applies to you.

  1. Identify installed Simcenter Femap version
Open Simcenter Femap and go to Help > About, or check the installation directory for version information. On Windows, common paths are C:\Program Files\Siemens\Femap or C:\Program Files (x86)\Siemens\Femap. Look for executable or DLL files with version properties, or check the uninstall registry key at HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall for Femap entries.
Affected if The installed version is lower than 2406.0000 (for example, 2403.x, 2306.x, or earlier releases).
  2. Identify installed Ps/iges Parasolid Translator version
Check the Parasolid translator installation. On Windows, look in C:\Program Files\Siemens\Parasolid or C:\Program Files (x86)\Siemens\Parasolid. Locate the psiges.dll or related translator components and inspect their file properties for version information. Also check Add/Remove Programs or the Windows registry for Siemens Parasolid entries.
Affected if The translator version is lower than 27.1.215.
  3. Determine if IGS file parsing is used or accessible
Verify whether the Femap installation includes IGS (IGES) import functionality. Check for the presence of IGS-related modules, plugins, or import filters in the Femap installation directory. Look for files with igs, iges, or translator in their names within the program folders.
Affected if IGS file import capability is present in the installation and users have access to the File > Import function with IGES/IGS options.
  4. Check for recent IGS file processing activity
Review recent import operations or file access logs if available. In Femap, check recent session files or examine the application's file history. On Windows, review the Prefetch folder or temp directories for recently opened IGS files. Also check Windows Event Viewer for application errors related to IGES parsing.
Affected if IGS files have been opened or imported into the affected Femap version.

You are affected if either Simcenter Femap version is below 2406.0000 or the Ps/iges Parasolid Translator version is below 27.1.215, AND the IGS file parsing feature is available or has been used to open files.
