Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.

NVD · unedited
An issue was discovered in OpenStack Cinder through 24.0.0, Glance before 28.0.2, and Nova before 29.0.3. Arbitrary file access can occur via custom QCOW2 external data. By supplying a crafted QCOW2 image that references a specific data file path, an authenticated user may convince systems to return a copy of that file's contents from the server, resulting in unauthorized access to potentially sensitive data. All Cinder and Nova deployments are affected; only Glance deployments with image conversion enabled are affected.

Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.

Cinder: 22.1.3, 23.1.1, or 24.0.1+ | Glance: 26.0.1, 27.0.1, or 28.0.2+ | Nova: 27.3.1, 28.1.1, or 29.0.3+

  1. Identify which OpenStack components (Cinder, Glance, Nova) are deployed in your environment
  2. For Cinder: Upgrade to version 22.1.3 or later, 23.1.1 or later, or 24.0.1 or later
  3. For Glance: Upgrade to version 26.0.1 or later, 27.0.1 or later, or 28.0.2 or later. Note: Only deployments with image conversion enabled are affected
  4. For Nova: Upgrade to version 27.3.1 or later, 28.1.1 or later, or 29.0.3 or later
  5. After upgrading, verify the fix by testing with a crafted QCOW2 image to confirm arbitrary file access is no longer possible
  6. Review the vendor bug report at https://launchpad.net/bugs/2059809 for any additional configuration or verification steps
