Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.

NVD · unedited
XWiki Platform is a generic wiki platform offering runtime services for applications built on top of it. It's possible to get access to notification filters of any user by using a URL such as `<hostname>xwiki/bin/get/XWiki/Notifications/Code/NotificationFilterPreferenceLivetableResults?outputSyntax=plain&type=custom&user=<username>`. This vulnerability impacts all versions of XWiki since 13.2-rc-1. The filters do not provide much information (they mainly contain references which are public data in XWiki), though some info could be used in combination with other vulnerabilities. This vulnerability has been patched in XWiki 14.10.21, 15.5.5, 15.10.1, 16.0RC1. The patch consists in checking the rights of the user when sending the data. Users are advised to upgrade. It's possible to workaround the vulnerability by applying manually the patch: it's possible for an administrator to edit directly the document `XWiki.Notifications.Code.NotificationFilterPreferenceLivetableResults` to apply the same changes as in the patch. See commit c8c6545f9bde6f5aade994aa5b5903a67b5c2582.

Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.

dbcve analysis
How this class of weakness works · CWE-200

The application discloses data — error detail, internal paths, tokens, or other users' records — to someone who shouldn't see it. On its own it can look minor, but it hands attackers the map they need for a larger attack. Remediation is about minimising what's returned and enforcing authorization on every piece of data.

Recommended fix High confidence

XWiki 15.10.1 (or 14.10.21 / 15.5.5 depending on your branch)

  1. Identify your current XWiki version using the administration interface or by checking the xwiki.properties file
  2. Backup your XWiki data and configuration before proceeding with the upgrade
  3. Download XWiki version 14.10.21, 15.5.5, or 15.10.1 (recommended: 15.10.1 for latest stable) from the official XWiki download page
  4. Follow the XWiki upgrade instructions for your deployment method (Docker, WAR file, or distribution package)
  5. After upgrade, verify the vulnerability is resolved by confirming the notification filter endpoint now properly checks user rights
  6. Alternatively, if immediate upgrade is not possible, apply manual patch: edit document XWiki.Notifications.Code.NotificationFilterPreferenceLivetableResults and add authorization check similar to the fix in commit c8c6545f9bde6f5aade994aa5b5903a67b5c2582
Caveat Review XWiki release notes for your target version to check for any breaking changes between your current and target version; major version jumps may require migration steps
