CVE-2025-10702
Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.
NVD · uneditedImproper Control of Generation of Code ('Code Injection') vulnerability in Progress DataDirect Connect for JDBC drivers, Progress DataDirect Open Access JDBC driver and Hybrid Data Pipeline allows Remote Code Inclusion. The SpyAttribute connection option implemented by the DataDirect Connect for JDBC drivers, DataDirect Hybrid Data Pipeline JDBC driver and the DataDirect OpenAccess JDBC driver supports an undocumented syntax construct for the option value that if discovered can be used by an attacker. If an application allows an end user to specify a value for the SpyAttributes connection option then an attacker can use the undocumented syntax to cause the driver to load an arbitrary class on the class path and execute a constructor on that class. Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.
dbcve analysis · high confidenceThis is a code injection vulnerability in DataDirect JDBC drivers where the undocumented syntax in the SpyAttributes connection option allows an attacker to load arbitrary classes from the classpath and execute their constructors. This effectively enables remote code execution if an application allows user-controlled values for the SpyAttributes connection option.
Verify against the referenced sources before acting — the references below are authoritative for this CVE, this summary is not.

Am I affected? How to checkSteps we derive from the advisory and the affected-version data, so you can decide whether this CVE reaches your setup. They are a guide, not a scan — your own configuration is the authority.
dbcve checksWork through these to decide whether this CVE applies to you.
-
Identify DataDirect JDBC driver presenceSearch for DataDirect driver JAR files (e.g., ddjdbc*.jar, datadirect*.jar) in your application lib directories, or check classpath for com.ddtek.jdbc.* classesAffected if DataDirect JDBC drivers are found in the environment
-
Determine installed DataDirect JDBC versionCheck the driver JAR manifest or version file, or query the driver via Connection.getDriver().getMajorVersion() and getMinorVersion() methodsAffected if The version is lower than the fixed versions listed in the CVE (compare against vendor advisories)
-
Check SpyAttributes configuration in useReview application connection strings, data source configurations, or properties files for 'SpyAttributes=' parameterAffected if SpyAttributes is configured and set to a non-empty value
-
Verify if SpyAttributes accepts untrusted inputReview application code or configuration to determine if SpyAttributes value is derived from user request parameters, headers, or other untrusted sourcesAffected if SpyAttributes value can be controlled by external users without validation
You are affected if DataDirect JDBC drivers are present with a vulnerable version AND the SpyAttributes connection option is exposed to user-controlled input.

Remediation Closing itWhat it takes to close this. Where a vendor fix exists we point at it; where none exists we say so plainly, and can build one. Effort estimates are scoped from the advisory, not from your codebase.
dbcve · scopedUpdate all affected DataDirect JDBC drivers to the fixed versions listed in the CVE. If immediate patching is not possible, restrict or validate the SpyAttributes connection option to prevent user-controlled input from being passed directly.
Upgrade to the specific fixed version for your product: DataDirect Connect for JDBC drivers (version 6.0.0.001541 or higher for Amazon Redshift, 6.0.0.000833 or higher for Cassandra, 6.0.1.001628 or higher for Hive, 6.0.0.001279 or higher for Impala, etc.), DataDirect Hybrid Data Pipeline Server 4.6
- 1. Identify which DataDirect JDBC driver(s) and version(s) are in use within your environment by reviewing your application's dependencies or installed driver files.
- 2. Cross-reference your current driver version against the affected versions listed in the CVE description to confirm vulnerability exposure.
- 3. Obtain the fixed driver version from Progress Software's official distribution channels or your existing licensing source.
- 4. Replace the vulnerable driver JAR file(s) in your application servers, application libraries, or deployment artifacts with the corresponding fixed version.
- 5. If using DataDirect Hybrid Data Pipeline, also upgrade the Server, JDBC Driver, On Premises Connector, and Docker components to their respective fixed versions.
- 6. If using DataDirect OpenAccess JDBC Driver, upgrade to version 8.1.0.0183 or 9.0.0.0022 depending on your major version branch.
- 7. Validate the application starts and database connections function correctly with the new driver version.
- 8. Review application code to ensure end users cannot directly control the SpyAttributes connection option, as a defense-in-depth measure.

The advisory tells you what broke. It rarely tells you what actually worked. If you’ve dealt with this one, that detail is what the next engineer is searching for.
- The version that genuinely resolved it — not the one the vendor claimed
- A config change or rule that shut the vector down
- A gotcha in the upgrade path that cost you an afternoon
