Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.

NVD · unedited
Substance3D - Stager versions 3.1.3 and earlier are affected by an out-of-bounds read vulnerability when parsing a crafted file, which could result in a read past the end of an allocated memory structure. An attacker could leverage this vulnerability to execute code in the context of the current user. Exploitation of this issue requires user interaction in that a victim must open a malicious file.

Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.

dbcve analysis · high confidence

An out-of-bounds read vulnerability exists in Substance3D Stager when parsing crafted files. The vulnerability allows reading past the end of allocated memory structures, which could be leveraged by an attacker to execute arbitrary code in the context of the current user. Exploitation requires user interaction—specifically opening a malicious file.

MitigationUsers should update Substance3D Stager to the latest version and avoid opening files from untrusted sources. Organizations should consider endpoint detection and file sandboxing for additional defense-in-depth.

Verify against the referenced sources before acting — the references below are authoritative for this CVE, this summary is not.

Am I affected? How to checkSteps we derive from the advisory and the affected-version data, so you can decide whether this CVE reaches your setup. They are a guide, not a scan — your own configuration is the authority.

dbcve checks

Work through these to decide whether this CVE applies to you.

  1. Identify if Adobe Substance 3D Stager is installed
Check the installed programs list in Windows Control Panel, or look for the application in the program files directory (typically C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Substance 3D Stager)
Affected if The application is present on the system
  2. Determine the installed version of Substance 3D Stager
Right-click the application executable, select Properties, then view the Details tab to see the File Version, or check the version displayed in the application's Help > About menu
Affected if The version number displayed is lower than 3.1.4 (for example, 3.1.3, 3.1.2, etc.)
  3. Verify the file parsing feature is accessible
Confirm the application can open project files (typically .glb, .fbx, .obj, or Substance 3D's native formats) - this is the primary function of Stager as a 3D staging tool
Affected if The application can open imported 3D files, which is the standard usage mode where the vulnerable parsing code would be invoked
  4. Confirm user interaction requirement
Recognize that exploitation requires a user to deliberately open a crafted malicious file within the application
Affected if Users in the environment have access to open 3D files from external or untrusted sources using this application

The environment is affected if Adobe Substance 3D Stager is installed with a version lower than 3.1.4 and users can open external files with it.
