  1. 1. Identify the current version of Devolutions PowerShell Universal by checking the application or using Get-PSUVersion command
  2. 2. Review the variables configuration in your PowerShell Universal dashboard to identify any secret variables that may be stored without a vault
  3. 3. Configure a vault (such as the built-in vault, HashiCorp Vault, or Azure Key Vault) for storing secret variables instead of storing them in plain text
  4. 4. Update all secret variables to use the configured vault by recreating them with the vault provider
  5. 5. After migrating secrets to the vault, delete any plaintext secret variables that were previously stored without a vault
  6. 6. Upgrade to PowerShell Universal 2026.3.0 or later when available, as this version addresses the cleartext storage vulnerability
  7. 7. Verify the fix by checking that secret variables are no longer stored in cleartext on disk
