CVE-2026-26215
Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.
NVD · uneditedmanga-image-translator version beta-0.3 and prior in shared API mode contains an unsafe deserialization vulnerability that can lead to unauthenticated remote code execution. The FastAPI endpoints /simple_execute/{method} and /execute/{method} deserialize attacker-controlled request bodies using pickle.loads() without validation. Although a nonce-based authorization check is intended to restrict access, the nonce defaults to an empty string and the check is skipped, allowing remote attackers to execute arbitrary code in the server context by sending a crafted pickle payload.
Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.
dbcve analysis · high confidencemanga-image-translator beta-0.3 and prior exposes FastAPI endpoints (/simple_execute/{method} and /execute/{method}) that deserialize request bodies using unsafe pickle.loads() without validation. Although a nonce-based authorization mechanism exists to protect these endpoints, it defaults to an empty string and the authorization check is bypassed, allowing unauthenticated attackers to execute arbitrary code via crafted pickle payloads.

Am I affected? How to checkSteps we derive from the advisory and the affected-version data, so you can decide whether this CVE reaches your setup. They are a guide, not a scan — your own configuration is the authority.
dbcve checksWork through these to decide whether this CVE applies to you.
-
Identify if manga-image-translator is installedLocate the installation directory or check installed packages (e.g., pip show manga-image-translator, or find the application directory)Affected if The application is present and the version is beta-0.3 or prior
-
Determine the installed versionRun the application's version check command or inspect version files in the installation directoryAffected if The version is beta-0.3 or any version prior to that release
-
Verify the application exposes FastAPI endpointsCheck if the application is running and accessible on network ports, specifically looking for endpoints /simple_execute/{method} and /execute/{method}Affected if These endpoints are reachable over the network without authentication
-
Inspect the nonce-based authentication configurationExamine the application's configuration files or environment variables for the nonce/secret setting; check if it is set to a strong non-empty value or still uses the default empty stringAffected if The nonce is not set, set to an empty string, or set to a weak/guessable value, allowing the authorization check to be bypassed
You are affected if manga-image-translator beta-0.3 or prior is installed and its vulnerable FastAPI endpoints are exposed with the default or weak nonce configuration.

Remediation Closing itWhat it takes to close this. Where a vendor fix exists we point at it; where none exists we say so plainly, and can build one. Effort estimates are scoped from the advisory, not from your codebase.
From vendor dataImmediately disable the shared API mode if not required, or enable and configure a strong non-empty nonce for the authorization check. As a longer-term fix, replace pickle deserialization with safer formats like JSON with strict schema validation.

The advisory tells you what broke. It rarely tells you what actually worked. If you’ve dealt with this one, that detail is what the next engineer is searching for.
- The version that genuinely resolved it — not the one the vendor claimed
- A config change or rule that shut the vector down
- A gotcha in the upgrade path that cost you an afternoon
