Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.

NVD · unedited
WWBN AVideo is an open source video platform. In versions up to and including 29.0, an incomplete fix for AVideo's `test.php` adds `escapeshellarg` for wget but leaves the `file_get_contents` and `curl` code paths unsanitized, and the URL validation regex `/^http/` accepts strings like `httpevil[.]com`. Commit 78bccae74634ead68aa6528d631c9ec4fd7aa536 contains an updated fix.

Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.

How this class of weakness works · CWE-78

User input reaches a shell or system command without being fully separated from the command itself, so an attacker can append their own instructions. Because these run with the application's privileges, it often means full control of the host. The lasting fix is to avoid the shell entirely — call APIs directly and pass arguments as data, never as concatenated strings.

A version after commit 78bccae74634ead68aa6528d631c9ec4fd7aa536 (the next release after 29.0)

  1. 1. Backup your AVideo installation and database before making any changes
  2. 2. Navigate to your AVideo installation directory
  3. 3. Pull the latest changes from the GitHub repository: `git pull origin master` or `git fetch origin` followed by `git checkout 78bccae74634ead68aa6528d631c9ec4fd7aa536`
  4. 4. Alternatively, download the updated files from commit 78bccae74634ead68aa6528d631c9ec4fd7aa536
  5. 5. Verify the fix addresses the OS Command Injection by checking that: the URL validation regex no longer accepts strings like 'httpevil[.]com', and both file_get_contents and curl code paths are properly sanitized
  6. 6. Test the test.php functionality to ensure the fix works correctly
  7. 7. Restore your system from backup if any issues arise
