Open ISES Tickets before 3.44.2 embeds a hardcoded WhitePages reverse-phone API key in wp1.php that is committed to the public source repository. Any actor with read access to the source tree can extract the key and use it to make third-party API calls billed to or rate-limited against the original owner's WhitePages account.

  1. Upgrade Open ISES Tickets to version 3.44.2 or later, which removes the hardcoded WhitePages API key from wp1.php
  2. After upgrading, verify that wp1.php no longer contains any hardcoded API credentials
  3. If using a custom deployment, alternatively apply the fix from commit ecfeb406a016766cae81c749e14b5145a9f2dbff which removes the embedded credentials from the source
  4. Replace the removed hardcoded credential with a secure configuration mechanism such as environment variables or a secrets manager
