Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.

NVD · unedited
Marlin Firmware through 2.1.2.7, fixed in commit 1f255d1, when built with MESH_BED_LEVELING enabled, contains an out-of-bounds write vulnerability in the M421 G-code handler that allows attackers to corrupt firmware memory by supplying out-of-range X and Y grid indices. Attackers can send a single crafted G-code command via USB serial, network interface, or malicious gcode file to write an attacker-controlled 32-bit float value past the z_values array bounds, corrupting adjacent firmware variables and causing denial of service or firmware state corruption.

Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.

Pull the specific commit 1f255d16ec2d456454fd444494cfb338d62b0fa1 or wait for the next stable release after 2.1.2.7

  1. 1. Navigate to the Marlin Firmware repository at https://github.com/MarlinFirmware/Marlin
  2. 2. Locate the vulnerable version (2.1.2.7 or any version through 2.1.2.7)
  3. 3. Apply the fix from commit 1f255d16ec2d456454fd444494cfb338d62b0fa1 which adds bounds checking in the M421 G-code handler to validate X and Y grid indices before writing to the z_values array
  4. 4. Rebuild the firmware with MESH_BED_LEVELING enabled
  5. 5. Flash the patched firmware to the device
  6. 6. Verify that M421 commands with out-of-range indices are rejected or safely handled
