Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.

NVD · unedited
Multiple vulnerabilities in the web-based user interface (web UI) of Cisco IOS XE Software could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to conduct a cross-site scripting (XSS) attack against a user of the web UI of the affected software. The vulnerabilities are due to insufficient input validation of certain parameters that are passed to the affected software via the web UI. An attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities by persuading a user of the affected UI to access a malicious link or by intercepting a user request for the affected UI and injecting malicious code into the request. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to execute arbitrary script code in the context of the affected UI or allow the attacker to access sensitive browser-based information on the user's system. Cisco Bug IDs: CSCuz38591, CSCvb09530, CSCvb10022.

Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.

dbcve analysis · moderate confidence

Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in the Cisco IOS XE Software web-based management interface allow unauthenticated remote attackers to inject malicious script code via insufficiently validated parameters. Successful exploitation enables arbitrary script execution in the context of the web UI or access to sensitive browser-based information.

MitigationApply the vendor patch from Cisco for IOS XE software to address the input validation flaws; consider disabling the web UI if not required or implementing additional web application firewall protections.

Verify against the referenced sources before acting — the references below are authoritative for this CVE, this summary is not.

Am I affected? How to checkSteps we derive from the advisory and the affected-version data, so you can decide whether this CVE reaches your setup. They are a guide, not a scan — your own configuration is the authority.

dbcve checks

Work through these to decide whether this CVE applies to you.

  1. Confirm the device is running Cisco IOS XE
Execute 'show version' or 'show system' on the device CLI and look for 'IOS XE' in the output
Affected if The device does not run Cisco IOS XE (this CVE only affects IOS XE)
  2. Identify the IOS XE version
Run 'show version' and locate the version number (for example, 16.3.5, 16.4.1) in the output
Affected if The installed version is less than 16.3.6 (any version from 16.0.0 through 16.3.5)
  3. Verify the web-based management interface is enabled
Check the configuration with 'show running-config | include ip http' or 'show running-config | include ip https' to see if HTTP or HTTPS server is configured
Affected if HTTP (ip http server) or HTTPS (ip http secure-server) is enabled in the configuration
  4. Confirm remote access to the web UI
Review interface configurations and access control lists with 'show ip interface' and ACL definitions to determine if the web management interface is reachable from network segments
Affected if The web UI is reachable from untrusted networks (not limited to localhost or management-only VLANs)

A device is affected if it runs Cisco IOS XE version below 16.3.6 AND has the web-based management interface enabled and accessible.
