Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.

NVD · unedited
Multiple vulnerabilities in the web-based management interface of Cisco Small Business RV016, RV042, RV042G, RV082, RV320, and RV325 Routers could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to execute arbitrary code or cause an affected device to restart unexpectedly. These vulnerabilities are due to improper validation of user-supplied input in the web-based management interface. An attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities by sending crafted HTTP requests to an affected device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to execute arbitrary code as the root user on the underlying operating system or cause the device to reload, resulting in a denial of service (DoS) condition. To exploit these vulnerabilities, an attacker would need to have valid administrator credentials on the affected device.

Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.

dbcve analysis · high confidence

Multiple input validation vulnerabilities in the web-based management interface of Cisco Small Business RV series routers allow an authenticated attacker to send crafted HTTP requests that can result in arbitrary code execution as root user or cause unexpected device reloads (DoS). The vulnerabilities stem from improper sanitization of user-supplied input in HTTP request handling.

MitigationApply Cisco firmware updates for affected RV series routers when available. If no patch exists, restrict web-based management interface access to trusted networks only, or disable it entirely in favor of SSH management, and ensure administrator credentials are complex and rotated.

Verify against the referenced sources before acting — the references below are authoritative for this CVE, this summary is not.

Am I affected? How to checkSteps we derive from the advisory and the affected-version data, so you can decide whether this CVE reaches your setup. They are a guide, not a scan — your own configuration is the authority.

dbcve checks

Work through these to decide whether this CVE applies to you.

  1. Identify the router model
Locate the model number on the device label or access the web management interface and look for the model identifier (RV016, RV042, RV042G, RV082, RV320, or RV325)
Affected if The device is one of the RV series models listed in the affected products
  2. Check the firmware version
Access the web-based management interface, navigate to the System Summary or Status page, and record the firmware version displayed. Alternatively, check via CLI if SSH is enabled.
Affected if The firmware version is <= 4.2.3.14 for RV016/RV042/RV042G/RV082, or <= 1.5.1.11 for RV320/RV325
  3. Verify web-based management is enabled
In the web interface, go to Administration > Management or similar section and check if HTTP/HTTPS management access is enabled. Look for 'HTTP' or 'HTTPS' management settings.
Affected if The web-based management interface is enabled (HTTP or HTTPS access is allowed)
  4. Check web management access scope
In the web interface, look for management access restrictions. Check if the interface is bound to WAN/ALL interfaces or limited to LAN only. Also verify if any IP access list restrictions are configured.
Affected if The web management interface is accessible from WAN or untrusted networks, or no IP access restrictions are configured

The device is affected if it is an RV series router (RV016, RV042, RV042G, RV082, RV320, or RV325) running firmware at or below the affected version AND the web-based management interface is enabled and accessible.
