CVE-2021-47400
Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.
NVD · uneditedIn the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: hns3: do not allow call hns3_nic_net_open repeatedly hns3_nic_net_open() is not allowed to called repeatly, but there is no checking for this. When doing device reset and setup tc concurrently, there is a small oppotunity to call hns3_nic_net_open repeatedly, and cause kernel bug by calling napi_enable twice. The calltrace information is like below: [ 3078.222780] ------------[ cut here ]------------ [ 3078.230255] kernel BUG at net/core/dev.c:6991! Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.

Remediation Closing itWhat it takes to close this. Where a vendor fix exists we point at it; where none exists we say so plainly, and can build one. Effort estimates are scoped from the advisory, not from your codebase.

Upgrade to kernel version 5.4.151, 5.10.71, 5.14.10, or any version after 5.15 (e.g., 5.15.1+) depending on your current branch
- Identify the currently running Linux kernel version using 'uname -r'
- Based on the kernel version, upgrade to one of the fixed releases: 5.4.151 or later for 5.4.x kernels, 5.10.71 or later for 5.10.x kernels, 5.14.10 or later for 5.14.x kernels, or a version after 5.15 that includes the fix (e.g., 5.15.1 or later)
- After upgrading the kernel, reboot the system to load the fixed version
- Verify the fix is applied by checking that hns3_nic_net_open now properly checks the HNS3_NIC_STATE_DOWN flag before proceeding

The advisory tells you what broke. It rarely tells you what actually worked. If you’ve dealt with this one, that detail is what the next engineer is searching for.
- The version that genuinely resolved it — not the one the vendor claimed
- A config change or rule that shut the vector down
- A gotcha in the upgrade path that cost you an afternoon
