Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.

NVD · unedited
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: netfilter: nf_tables: fix nft_counters_enabled underflow at nf_tables_addchain() syzbot is reporting underflow of nft_counters_enabled counter at nf_tables_addchain() [1], for commit 43eb8949cfdffa76 ("netfilter: nf_tables: do not leave chain stats enabled on error") missed that nf_tables_chain_destroy() after nft_basechain_init() in the error path of nf_tables_addchain() decrements the counter because nft_basechain_init() makes nft_is_base_chain() return true by setting NFT_CHAIN_BASE flag. Increment the counter immediately after returning from nft_basechain_init().

Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.

Recommended fix High confidence

5.10.146, 5.15.71, 5.19.12, or a kernel version newer than 6.0

  1. Identify the currently running Linux kernel version using 'uname -r'
  2. If running an affected version (5.10.140-5.10.145, 5.15.64-5.15.70, 5.19.6-5.19.11, or 6.0), upgrade the kernel to a patched version
  3. Apply the appropriate kernel package update for your distribution, or rebuild from source with commit 710e3f526bd23a0d33435dedc52c3144de284378 included
  4. Reboot the system to load the patched kernel
Caveat Kernel upgrades may require system downtime and could introduce compatibility issues with custom modules or specific hardware drivers; ensure backups and test in a staging environment before production deployment
