CVE-2022-48704
Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.
NVD · uneditedIn the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/radeon: add a force flush to delay work when radeon Although radeon card fence and wait for gpu to finish processing current batch rings, there is still a corner case that radeon lockup work queue may not be fully flushed, and meanwhile the radeon_suspend_kms() function has called pci_set_power_state() to put device in D3hot state. Per PCI spec rev 4.0 on 5.3.1.4.1 D3hot State. > Configuration and Message requests are the only TLPs accepted by a Function in > the D3hot state. All other received Requests must be handled as Unsupported Requests, > and all received Completions may optionally be handled as Unexpected Completions. Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.

Remediation Closing itWhat it takes to close this. Where a vendor fix exists we point at it; where none exists we say so plainly, and can build one. Effort estimates are scoped from the advisory, not from your codebase.

Upgrade to kernel 4.9.328, 4.14.293, 4.19.258, or 5.4.213 (or later stable release) depending on your current branch
- 1. Identify the current running kernel version using `uname -r`
- 2. Check which major kernel branch your current version belongs to (e.g., 4.9.x, 4.14.x, 4.19.x, 5.4.x)
- 3. For systems running kernel < 4.9.328: upgrade to kernel 4.9.328 or later
- 4. For systems running kernel 4.10.x to 4.14.x: upgrade to kernel 4.14.293 or later
- 5. For systems running kernel 4.15.x to 4.19.x: upgrade to kernel 4.19.258 or later
- 6. For systems running kernel 4.20.x to 5.4.x: upgrade to kernel 5.4.213 or later
- 7. If running an older distribution kernel, contact your vendor for a backported patch incorporating commit 16cb367daa446923d82e332537f446a4cc784b40
- 8. After upgrade, reboot the system to load the fixed kernel

The advisory tells you what broke. It rarely tells you what actually worked. If you’ve dealt with this one, that detail is what the next engineer is searching for.
- The version that genuinely resolved it — not the one the vendor claimed
- A config change or rule that shut the vector down
- A gotcha in the upgrade path that cost you an afternoon
