CVE-2022-48795
Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.

The bug is caused by overrunning the sglist and incorrectly testing sg_dma_len(sglist) before nents. Normally this doesn't cause a crash, but in this case sglist crossed a page boundary. This occurs in the following code: while (sg_dma_len(sglist) && nents--) { The fix is simply to test nents first and move the decrement of nents into the loop.
Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.

Remediation Closing itWhat it takes to close this. Where a vendor fix exists we point at it; where none exists we say so plainly, and can build one. Effort estimates are scoped from the advisory, not from your codebase.
dbcve · scoped4.9.3034.14.2684.19.231
Linux Kernel 5.4.181 (or latest stable 5.4.x; alternatively 4.14.268+, 4.19.231+, or 4.9.303+ depending on your branch)
- Upgrade the Linux kernel to version 5.4.181 or later, or to a version >= 4.14.268, >= 4.19.231, or >= 4.9.303 depending on your kernel branch
- Verify the fix by checking that the kernel boots without the "Bad Address (null pointer deref?)" error in dmesg
- If running on PARISC hardware (HP 9000/785/C8000 or similar), test DMA operations (particularly SCSI with mptscsih driver) to confirm the fix resolves the data TLB miss fault

The advisory tells you what broke. It rarely tells you what actually worked. If you’ve dealt with this one, that detail is what the next engineer is searching for.
- The version that genuinely resolved it — not the one the vendor claimed
- A config change or rule that shut the vector down
- A gotcha in the upgrade path that cost you an afternoon
