CVE-2022-49663
Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.
NVD · uneditedIn the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: tunnels: do not assume mac header is set in skb_tunnel_check_pmtu() Recently added debug in commit f9aefd6b2aa3 ("net: warn if mac header was not set") caught a bug in skb_tunnel_check_pmtu(), as shown in this syzbot report [1]. In ndo_start_xmit() paths, there is really no need to use skb->mac_header, because skb->data is supposed to point at it. Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.
dbcve analysisA detailed technical summary for this CVE is being prepared.
Affected products & versions What the vendor confirmedThe version ranges the vendor confirmed as vulnerable. If your version sits inside a range here, treat yourself as exposed until you have upgraded.

Remediation Closing itWhat it takes to close this. Where a vendor fix exists we point at it; where none exists we say so plainly, and can build one. Effort estimates are scoped from the advisory, not from your codebase.

Upgrade to kernel 5.10.129+, 5.15.53+, 5.18.10+, or 5.19.1+ depending on which branch you are on
- 1. Identify the current running kernel version using 'uname -r' or 'cat /proc/version'
- 2. Determine which branch of the affected version range your kernel falls into (5.10.x, 5.15.x, 5.18.x, or 5.19)
- 3. For kernels in range >= 5.9 to < 5.10.129: upgrade to kernel version 5.10.129 or later
- 4. For kernels in range >= 5.11 to < 5.15.53: upgrade to kernel version 5.15.53 or later
- 5. For kernels in range >= 5.16 to < 5.18.10: upgrade to kernel version 5.18.10 or later
- 6. For kernel version 5.19: upgrade to 5.19.1 or later (the next stable release)
- 7. Apply the upgrade via your distribution's package manager (e.g., apt-get update && apt-get upgrade, yum update, dnf update)
- 8. Reboot the system to load the new kernel

The advisory tells you what broke. It rarely tells you what actually worked. If you’ve dealt with this one, that detail is what the next engineer is searching for.
- The version that genuinely resolved it — not the one the vendor claimed
- A config change or rule that shut the vector down
- A gotcha in the upgrade path that cost you an afternoon
