Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.

NVD · unedited
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ALSA: bcd2000: Fix a UAF bug on the error path of probing When the driver fails in snd_card_register() at probe time, it will free the 'bcd2k->midi_out_urb' before killing it, which may cause a UAF bug. The following log can reveal it: [ 50.727020] BUG: KASAN: use-after-free in bcd2000_input_complete+0x1f1/0x2e0 [snd_bcd2000] [ 50.727623] Read of size 8 at addr ffff88810fab0e88 by task swapper/4/0 [ 50.729530] Call Trace: [ 50.732899] bcd2000_input_complete+0x1f1/0x2e0 [snd_bcd2000] Fix this by adding usb_kill_urb() before usb_free_urb().

Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.

How this class of weakness works · CWE-416

Memory is used after it has been freed, so its contents — now potentially attacker-controlled — drive the program's behaviour. With careful heap grooming this becomes code execution. The fix requires disciplined ownership of memory and often a targeted rework of the object lifecycle.

Recommended fix High confidence

Linux kernel >= 5.4.211 (or >= 4.9.326 for 4.9.x, >= 4.14.291 for 4.14.x, >= 4.19.256 for 4.19.x)

  1. Upgrade the Linux kernel to version 5.4.211 or later to resolve the use-after-free vulnerability in the bcd2000 driver
  2. Alternatively, if staying on older branches is required, upgrade to: 4.9.326+, 4.14.291+, or 4.19.256+ depending on your current branch
  3. After kernel upgrade, verify the bcd2000 module loads correctly and the device is recognized
Caveat Kernel upgrades may require rebuilding out-of-tree modules; verify hardware compatibility with the new kernel version
