Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.

NVD · unedited
A vulnerability has been identified in Tecnomatix Plant Simulation (All versions < V2201.0006). The affected application contains an out of bounds write past the end of an allocated buffer while parsing a specially crafted SPP file. This could allow an attacker to execute code in the context of the current process. (ZDI-CAN-20304)

Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.

dbcve analysis · high confidence

Tecnomatix Plant Simulation contains an out-of-bounds write vulnerability when parsing specially crafted SPP files. The application writes past the end of an allocated buffer during SPP file parsing, which can be exploited to execute arbitrary code in the context of the current process.

MitigationUpgrade to Tecnomatix Plant Simulation version V2201.0006 or later to remediate this vulnerability. Until the patch is applied, avoid opening untrusted SPP files from unknown or untrusted sources.

Verify against the referenced sources before acting — the references below are authoritative for this CVE, this summary is not.

Am I affected? How to checkSteps we derive from the advisory and the affected-version data, so you can decide whether this CVE reaches your setup. They are a guide, not a scan — your own configuration is the authority.

dbcve checks

Work through these to decide whether this CVE applies to you.

  1. Identify if Tecnomatix Plant Simulation is installed
Check for the application in typical installation directories such as C:\Program Files\Siemens\Tecnomatix_Plant_Simulation or C:\Program Files (x86)\Siemens\Tecnomatix_Plant_Simulation. Also check the Windows Start Menu for Siemens Tecnomatix Plant Simulation.
Affected if The product is present on the system
  2. Determine installed version
Locate the Plant Simulation executable (typically PlantSimulation.exe) and check its version properties. Right-click the executable, select Properties, and view the Details tab. Alternatively, check the file version information using PowerShell: Get-Item 'C:\Program Files\Siemens\Tecnomatix_Plant_Simulation\PlantSimulation.exe' | Select-Object VersionInfo.
Affected if The version shown is earlier than 2201.0006 (such as 2201.0005, V2201, or any version below 2201.0006)
  3. Verify SPP file handling is accessible
SPP files are simulation package files used by Plant Simulation. Check if the application has file association handlers registered for .spp extensions. Look in Windows Registry under HKCR\.spp or test by attempting to open an SPP file through the application.
Affected if The application can open or parse SPP files, which is the vulnerable feature
  4. Inspect recent SPP file access
Check for recently opened SPP files in the application's recent files list, or examine Windows prefetch/temp directories for SPP files that may have been opened. Review the application's file history or recent documents folder.
Affected if Any SPP files from untrusted sources have been opened recently, indicating potential exploitation attempt

A system is affected if Tecnomatix Plant Simulation is installed with a version number lower than 2201.0006 and the application has the ability to parse SPP files, which is the default behavior.
