CVE-2024-26989
Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.
NVD · uneditedIn the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: arm64: hibernate: Fix level3 translation fault in swsusp_save() On arm64 machines, swsusp_save() faults if it attempts to access MEMBLOCK_NOMAP memory ranges. Such MEMBLOCK_NOMAP regions should not be saved during hibernation. This problem was introduced by changes to the pfn_valid() logic in commit a7d9f306ba70 ("arm64: drop pfn_valid_within() and simplify pfn_valid()"). Similar to other architectures, drop the !can_set_direct_map() check in kernel_page_present() so that page_is_savable() skips such pages. [[email protected]: rework commit message]

Remediation Closing itWhat it takes to close this. Where a vendor fix exists we point at it; where none exists we say so plainly, and can build one. Effort estimates are scoped from the advisory, not from your codebase.
dbcve · scoped5.15.1576.1.886.6.29
Upgrade to kernel version 5.15.157+, 6.1.88+, 6.6.29+, or 6.8.8+ depending on your current branch (e.g., from 6.6.2 to 6.6.29)
- Identify the currently running kernel version using `uname -r`
- Determine which version range your current kernel falls into from the affected versions: 5.14-5.15.156, 5.16-6.1.87, 6.2-6.6.28, or 6.7-6.8.7
- Upgrade to a fixed kernel version: for 5.14.x/5.15.x upgrade to >= 5.15.157; for 5.16.x/6.1.x upgrade to >= 6.1.88; for 6.2.x/6.6.x upgrade to >= 6.6.29; for 6.7.x/6.8.x upgrade to >= 6.8.8
- Reboot the system to apply the new kernel
- Verify the fix is applied by checking the kernel version with `uname -r` and confirming it matches or exceeds the appropriate fixed version

The advisory tells you what broke. It rarely tells you what actually worked. If you’ve dealt with this one, that detail is what the next engineer is searching for.
- The version that genuinely resolved it — not the one the vendor claimed
- A config change or rule that shut the vector down
- A gotcha in the upgrade path that cost you an afternoon
