CVE-2024-27007
Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.
NVD · uneditedIn the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: userfaultfd: change src_folio after ensuring it's unpinned in UFFDIO_MOVE Commit d7a08838ab74 ("mm: userfaultfd: fix unexpected change to src_folio when UFFDIO_MOVE fails") moved the src_folio->{mapping, index} changing to after clearing the page-table and ensuring that it's not pinned. This avoids failure of swapout+migration and possibly memory corruption. However, the commit missed fixing it in the huge-page case.
Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.
dbcve analysisA detailed technical summary for this CVE is being prepared.
Affected products & versions What the vendor confirmedThe version ranges the vendor confirmed as vulnerable. If your version sits inside a range here, treat yourself as exposed until you have upgraded.

dbcve · scoped6.8.8
Linux kernel 6.8.8 or later; Linux kernel 6.9.x with stable patch c0205eaf3af9f5db14d4b5ee4abacf4a583c3c50
- Check current kernel version using `uname -r`
- Identify your Linux distribution and package manager
- For upstream kernel: upgrade to version 6.8.8 or later, or any 6.9.x release that includes the fix
- For Fedora: run `dnf update kernel` to install the latest fixed kernel
- For Debian/Ubuntu: run `apt update && apt upgrade linux-image-generic`
- For RHEL/CentOS: run `yum update kernel`
- After installation, reboot the system to load the new kernel
- Verify the fix by checking `uname -r` matches the upgraded version and confirming the kernel includes commit c0205eaf3af9

The advisory tells you what broke. It rarely tells you what actually worked. If you’ve dealt with this one, that detail is what the next engineer is searching for.
- The version that genuinely resolved it — not the one the vendor claimed
- A config change or rule that shut the vector down
- A gotcha in the upgrade path that cost you an afternoon
