CVE-2024-36006
Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.
NVD · uneditedIn the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mlxsw: spectrum_acl_tcam: Fix incorrect list API usage Both the function that migrates all the chunks within a region and the function that migrates all the entries within a chunk call list_first_entry() on the respective lists without checking that the lists are not empty. This is incorrect usage of the API, which leads to the following warning [1]. Fix by returning if the lists are empty as there is nothing to migrate in this case. Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.

Remediation Closing itWhat it takes to close this. Where a vendor fix exists we point at it; where none exists we say so plainly, and can build one. Effort estimates are scoped from the advisory, not from your codebase.
dbcve · scoped5.4.2755.10.2165.15.158
5.4.275+, 5.10.216+, 5.15.158+, or 6.1.90+ (depending on which branch is in use)
- Identify the currently running kernel version using `uname -r`
- Determine which kernel branch is in use (e.g., 5.4.x, 5.10.x, 5.15.x, or 6.1.x)
- Upgrade to a fixed kernel version: 5.4.275 or later, 5.10.216 or later, 5.15.158 or later, or 6.1.90 or later
- On Debian 10, update using `apt-get update && apt-get upgrade` or install a newer kernel from backports
- Reboot into the updated kernel
- Verify the fix is applied by checking the kernel version and confirming the mlxsw driver loads without warnings

The advisory tells you what broke. It rarely tells you what actually worked. If you’ve dealt with this one, that detail is what the next engineer is searching for.
- The version that genuinely resolved it — not the one the vendor claimed
- A config change or rule that shut the vector down
- A gotcha in the upgrade path that cost you an afternoon
