Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.

Recommended fix High confidence

Upgrade to kernel version 5.15.165 (or newer 5.15.x), 5.10.224 (or newer 5.10.x), 5.4.282 (or newer 5.4.x), or 4.19.320 (or newer 4.19.x). For long-term support, 5.15.165+ is recommended.

  1. Identify the current kernel version using `uname -r`
  2. For RHEL/CentOS systems: `sudo yum update kernel` or `sudo dnf install kernel-<version>`
  3. For Debian/Ubuntu systems: `sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install linux-image-<version>`
  4. For SUSE systems: `sudo zypper update kernel-default`
  5. After installation, reboot the system using `sudo reboot` to load the fixed kernel
  6. Verify the fix by checking `uname -r` shows a version >= 5.15.165, >= 5.10.224, >= 5.4.282, or >= 4.19.320, and confirm the warning no longer appears in dmesg
Caveat Kernel upgrades may require rebuild of third-party kernel modules (like proprietary GPU drivers). Ensure compatibility of kernel modules and critical applications with the target version before production deployment.
