Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.

NVD · unedited
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: drop UFO packets in udp_rcv_segment() When sending a packet with virtio_net_hdr to tun device, if the gso_type in virtio_net_hdr is SKB_GSO_UDP and the gso_size is less than udphdr size, below crash may happen. ------------[ cut here ]------------ kernel BUG at net/core/skbuff.c:4572! When the encap_rcv hook return 1 in udp_queue_rcv_one_skb(), udp_csum_pull_header() will try to pull udphdr, but the skb size has been segmented to gso size, which leads to this crash. Previous commit cf329aa42b66 ("udp: cope with UDP GRO packet misdirection") introduces segmentation in UDP receive path only for GRO, which was never intended to be used for UFO, so drop UFO packets in udp_rcv_segment().

Linux kernel >= 5.4.297, 5.10.241, 5.15.190, or 6.1.148 (depending on your branch)

  1. 1. Identify the currently running kernel version using `uname -r`
  2. 2. Determine which version range your current kernel falls into (5.0-5.4.x, 5.5-5.10.x, 5.11-5.15.x, or 5.16-6.1.x)
  3. 3. Upgrade the Linux kernel to the fixed version for your branch:
  4. - For 5.0 <= version < 5.4: upgrade to 5.4.297 or later
  5. - For 5.5 <= version < 5.10: upgrade to 5.10.241 or later
  6. - For 5.11 <= version < 5.15: upgrade to 5.15.190 or later
  7. - For 5.16 <= version < 6.1: upgrade to 6.1.148 or later
  8. 4. On Debian 11 systems, apply vendor security updates: run `apt update && apt upgrade` or install the latest kernel image package
Caveat Kernel upgrades may require system reboot and could introduce compatibility issues with custom modules or older drivers; ensure backup and test in staging first
