CVE-2026-76346
Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.
NVD · uneditedIn Splunk Enterprise versions below 10.4.2, 10.2.6, 10.0.9, and 9.4.14, a user who holds the "power" Splunk role could store a malicious script in dashboard sparkline format options and execute unauthorized JavaScript in the browser of another user who views the dashboard. If the other user holds the "admin" Splunk role, the script could access all relevant data available through Splunk Web and perform actions with that user's permissions. The vulnerability is possible because Splunk Web does not limit the permitted dashboard visualization options to safe presentation settings and does not escape tooltip values before rendering them. The vulnerability requires the attacker to phish the affected user by tricking them into initiating a request within their browser. The user who holds the "power" Splunk role should not be able to exploit the vulnerability at will. For more information see About configuring role-based user access (https://help.splunk.com/en/splunk-enterprise/administer/manage-users-and-security/10.2/manage-splunk-platform-users-and-roles/about-configuring-role-based-user-access) in the Splunk documentation.
Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.
dbcve analysisUntrusted input is placed into a web page without being neutralised, so an attacker's markup or script executes in another user's browser. That can hijack sessions, capture keystrokes, or silently perform actions as the victim. Fixing it properly means context-aware output encoding everywhere data meets HTML, backed by a content-security policy as a second line of defence.

Upgrade to Splunk Enterprise 10.4.2, 10.2.6, 10.0.9, or 9.4.14 (or higher in each respective branch)
- Review Splunk Upgrade Planning documentation to understand compatibility requirements for your deployment
- Take a full backup of your Splunk Enterprise configuration and apps
- Test the upgrade in a non-production environment first
- Upgrade to Splunk Enterprise 10.4.2 or higher (if on 10.x), or 10.2.6 or higher (if on 10.2.x), or 10.0.9 or higher (if on 10.0.x), or 9.4.14 or higher (if on 9.x)
- Verify all custom dashboards and apps function correctly after upgrade
- Review dashboard configurations to ensure no malicious sparkline format options were previously stored

The advisory tells you what broke. It rarely tells you what actually worked. If you’ve dealt with this one, that detail is what the next engineer is searching for.
- The version that genuinely resolved it — not the one the vendor claimed
- A config change or rule that shut the vector down
- A gotcha in the upgrade path that cost you an afternoon
