Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.

NVD · unedited
Multiple vulnerabilities in the web-based management interface of Cisco Small Business RV016, RV042, RV042G, RV082, RV320, and RV325 Routers could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to inject arbitrary commands that are executed with root privileges. These vulnerabilities are due to improper validation of user-supplied input in the web-based management interface. An attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities by sending crafted HTTP requests to a targeted device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to execute arbitrary code as the root user on the underlying operating system. To exploit these vulnerabilities, an attacker would need to have valid administrator credentials on an affected device.

Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.

dbcve analysis · high confidence

Authenticated command injection vulnerability in Cisco Small Business RV series routers (RV016, RV042, RV042G, RV082, RV320, RV325) allows remote attackers with valid administrator credentials to inject arbitrary commands via crafted HTTP requests to the web-based management interface, resulting in root-level code execution on the underlying operating system.

MitigationApply Cisco firmware updates when released; until then, restrict access to the web management interface to trusted networks only and enforce strong administrator credentials to reduce attack surface.

Verify against the referenced sources before acting — the references below are authoritative for this CVE, this summary is not.

Am I affected? How to checkSteps we derive from the advisory and the affected-version data, so you can decide whether this CVE reaches your setup. They are a guide, not a scan — your own configuration is the authority.

dbcve checks

Work through these to decide whether this CVE applies to you.

  1. Identify the router model
Access the device status page or check the physical device label to confirm the model number is one of: RV016, RV042, RV042G, RV082, RV320, or RV325
Affected if The model is any of these six listed models
  2. Check the installed firmware version
Log into the web management interface and navigate to the status or system information page to view the firmware version; alternatively, use the device CLI if available to display the firmware version
Affected if For RV016, RV042, RV042G, RV082 the version is 4.2.3.14 or lower; for RV320, RV325 the version is 1.5.1.11 or lower
  3. Confirm the web-based management interface is enabled
Check the device configuration for HTTP/HTTPS management access settings; verify whether the web interface is listening on any interface
Affected if The web-based management interface is enabled and accessible (even locally)
  4. Verify administrator accounts exist
Check the user account configuration within the router's web interface to confirm at least one administrator account is configured
Affected if One or more administrator accounts are configured on the device

A user is affected if they have one of the six affected router models running a firmware version at or below the listed thresholds, with the web management interface enabled and at least one administrator account configured.
