Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.

NVD · unedited
Multiple vulnerabilities in the web-based management interface of Cisco Small Business RV016, RV042, RV042G, RV082, RV320, and RV325 Routers could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to execute arbitrary code or cause an affected device to restart unexpectedly. These vulnerabilities are due to improper validation of user-supplied input in the web-based management interface. An attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities by sending crafted HTTP requests to an affected device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to execute arbitrary code as the root user on the underlying operating system or cause the device to reload, resulting in a denial of service (DoS) condition. To exploit these vulnerabilities, an attacker would need to have valid administrator credentials on the affected device.

Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.

dbcve analysis · high confidence

Command injection vulnerabilities in the web-based management interface of Cisco Small Business RV series routers (RV016, RV042, RV042G, RV082, RV320, RV325) allow authenticated attackers with administrator credentials to execute arbitrary code as root or cause device reload via crafted HTTP requests due to improper input validation.

MitigationApply available Cisco firmware patches; if no patch exists, restrict administrative access to trusted networks only or disable remote web management interface access.

Verify against the referenced sources before acting — the references below are authoritative for this CVE, this summary is not.

Am I affected? How to checkSteps we derive from the advisory and the affected-version data, so you can decide whether this CVE reaches your setup. They are a guide, not a scan — your own configuration is the authority.

dbcve checks

Work through these to decide whether this CVE applies to you.

  1. Identify router model
Access the device web interface and navigate to System Summary or Status page to confirm the exact model number (RV016, RV042, RV042G, RV082, RV320, or RV325). Alternatively, check the physical device label or use SNMP to query device information.
    Affected if The device is one of: RV016, RV042, RV042G, RV082, RV320, or RV325.
  2. Check firmware version
Log into the web-based management interface and navigate to Administration > Firmware Upgrade or System Summary to view the currently installed firmware version. Compare against the affected versions: RV016/RV042/RV042G/RV082 if version <= 4.2.3.14; RV320/RV325 if version <= 1.5.1.11.
Affected if Firmware version is at or below 4.2.3.14 for RV016/RV042/RV042G/RV082, or at or below 1.5.1.11 for RV320/RV325.
  3. Verify web-based management interface is enabled
In the web interface, go to Administration > Management or Security settings and confirm the HTTP/HTTPS management interface is enabled. Check if access is allowed from WAN (remote) or LAN only.
Affected if The web-based management interface is enabled and accessible.
  4. Confirm remote admin access configuration
Navigate to Administration > Remote Management or Security > Access Rules to determine if remote (WAN) access to the web management interface is permitted. Note the IP ranges or interfaces allowed for administrative access.
Affected if Remote WAN access to the web interface is enabled, exposing the device to external attackers.

The device is affected if it is an RV016, RV042, RV042G, RV082, RV320, or RV325 router running firmware at or below the affected version AND the web-based management interface is enabled, particularly if accessible from WAN.
