Official description Straight from the sourceThe vendor's or NVD's own wording, published unedited. Authoritative, but often terse — it says what broke, rarely what to do.

NVD · unedited
In Apache MINA, a specifically crafted, malformed HTTP request may cause the HTTP Header decoder to loop indefinitely. The decoder assumed that the HTTP Header begins at the beginning of the buffer and loops if there is more data than expected. Please update MINA to 2.1.5 or greater.

Technical summary Written by usOur analysis, written from the advisory, the CVSS vector and the affected-version data. It adds context the advisory leaves out, and never invents facts that are not in the source.

How this class of weakness works · CWE-835

Crafted input drives a loop whose exit condition is never satisfied, hanging the thread and starving the service of the resource it occupies. A single request can be enough to take a worker down. Remediation is bounding iteration counts and validating the conditions that are supposed to terminate the loop.

General guidance for the infinite loop class — the official description and references above are authoritative for this specific CVE. Want a bespoke review and a reviewed fix? Ask our team →

Apache MINA 2.1.5 (or 2.0.22 for 2.0.x line users)

  1. 1. Identify all deployments and dependencies that use Apache MINA library
  2. 2. For applications using MINA 2.0.x line: upgrade to version 2.0.22 or higher
  3. 3. For applications using MINA 2.1.x line: upgrade to version 2.1.5 or higher
  4. 4. Rebuild and redeploy all affected applications with the updated MINA dependency
  5. 5. Test HTTP request handling functionality to verify the infinite loop issue is resolved
  6. 6. Monitor for any regressions in HTTP header parsing behavior
